Our Story

Lingalonga, A Name That Carries Time

Lingalonga is not a new beginning, but a continuation. A name that has traveled across continents, generations, and ways of living.
The name originates in South Africa, where part of our family history began. Years later, it was given to a beloved lake house in Connecticut, known for long stays, shared time, and an unhurried rhythm of life. Over time, Lingalonga became more than a name. It became a philosophy.
Lingalonga means linger longer. To stay. To slow down. To move through life without rushing its moments.
When we imagined creating a surfside home in Costa Rica, the name felt inevitable. It captured exactly what this place would become. A home designed for presence, balance, and connection with nature.
Today, Lingalonga lives on in Hacienda Pinilla, Guanacaste, carrying the same soul into a landscape shaped by ocean, light, and tropical calm.

A Continuation, Not a Concept

Lingalonga represents continuity rather than reinvention. Each home that has carried this name reflects a chapter rooted in connection. Connection to nature, to family, and to a slower, more intentional way of living.
This home came to life during a season when our lives were moving quickly across careers, cities, and responsibilities. Building Lingalonga became a deliberate choice to slow down and create a space shaped by how we wanted to live.
Costa Rica offered the perfect setting. Its emphasis on balance, sustainability, and respect for nature aligned naturally with the Lingalonga philosophy.

Why Costa Rica and Why Hacienda Pinilla

Costa Rica has a rare authenticity. Nature here is powerful, present, and immersive. It shapes daily life rather than decorating it. From our first visit, there was a sense of clarity and calm.
Hacienda Pinilla stood out for its balance. It offers privacy and community, wild nature and refined living. As a gated coastal community in Guanacaste, it provides access to world class beaches, surf breaks, golf, and nature trails while maintaining strong environmental respect.
It felt like the right place to build a design driven home that blends seamlessly into its surroundings.

The Life We Imagined Here

From the beginning, we envisioned a lifestyle rooted in ease and flow. A home where mornings begin barefoot, indoor and outdoor spaces merge naturally, and luxury is defined by space, light, and calm rather than excess.
Lingalonga was designed as a place for staying, not passing through. A home that encourages long mornings, unstructured afternoons, and evenings shaped by natural light and ocean air.
Time here feels expansive. Intentional. Unhurried.

Living Lingalonga

A perfect day at Lingalonga begins with natural light, birdsong, and ocean air. It may include an early walk to the beach, a nearby surf session, or a slow breakfast overlooking the garden.
The day unfolds without structure. Swimming, reading, resting, or simply being. As afternoon light turns golden, meals are shared and conversations stretch. Evenings end quietly under the stars.
Hacienda Pinilla offers both movement and stillness. Long beach walks, bike rides, surf sessions, and nature trails coexist with the simple pleasure of doing very little.

What We Hope Guests Feel

We hope guests feel lighter, calmer, and more present.
Lingalonga is not a house to be consumed, but a home to be experienced. If guests leave feeling restored, grounded, and reluctant to go, then Lingalonga has fulfilled its purpose.

The Soul of Lingalonga

If Lingalonga had a soul, it would be warm, grounded, and quietly expressive. It carries stories from South Africa, Connecticut, and Costa Rica, yet feels fully at home where it stands.
Like the meaning of its name, Lingalonga invites you to slow down, stay longer, and experience the true luxury of time, space, and presence.
